Our families celebrate Christmas very similarly. We open one present on Christmas Eve, normally pajamas. We wake up early and open all the presents with family the morning of Christmas, one gift at a time after breakfast.
Bryan and I do Christmas a little differently. We open presents over the course of a few days. Like Hannukah. Or like an economist. Bryan's big reasoning is that waiting is stupid because we can immediately start using/playing/wearing/eating whatever is wrapped.
This year, we opened our big presents first. A good three weeks before Christmas.
We did pretty damn good for each other.
The other night, we decided to go ahead and open everything else. Which was awesome. I love that tradition.
My other favorite tradition that we have is writing a letter to our future selves talking about the past year, the best Christmas presents and our predictions for the future. So far, we're pretty good except for Bryan's six pack abs and my getting better at doing chores.
We're hitting the road for South Carolina on Tuesday to see Bryan's family and our friends. I'm looking forward to it. There may not be many posts between now and the new year, so if I don't write: Happy holidays, merry Christmas and happy new year! Love to all of my readers and to my future self.
